Counseling

Students can drop by to visit with a counselor before school or during lunch.

They also can complete a form located in the counseling office requesting to speak with a counselor.

We hope that our counselors’ introductions will encourage our students to seek help, when needed.

Mrs. Rachel Gilchrist: Serving students whose last names begin with A-K

Hi Everyone! This is my first year at Kopachuck MS and I am so happy to be here! Like Mrs. Griffin, I also received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington (Go Huskies!), and have my Masters of Education in School Counseling from City University of Seattle. My mission is to remove barriers to academic achievement through student advocacy. My goal is for students to depart empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve academic, personal/social, and career success to reach their fullest potential. A few fun facts about me: I love the outdoors- especially hiking all over Washington! I’m into yoga, spending time with my husband and family, and visiting fun, new local coffee shops on Sundays.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me via phone or email: 253-530-4133 or gilchristr@psd401.net

Mrs. Sammie Griffin: Serving students whose last names begin with L-Z.

This will be my third year at Kopachuck, and I am so excited to not only be back, but to be back full time! I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington and I received my Masters of Education in Counseling from the University of Puget Sound. Some fun facts about me: I am a die-hard Husky football fan. I love sports, reading, and spending time with my husband and our dog, Tiki, who is a one-year-old German Shepherd, and cat, Shaggy who is a three-year-old Maine Coon. I want all students to feel included and safe. I am available to help with academic, social, emotional and any other issues or situations that may occur. I aim to be a great resource and advocate for students! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me either by phone or email: 253-530-4132 or griffins@psd401.net.

  • Develop plans for student success
  • Provide contacts for community resource

  • Support groups for a variety of concerns such as grief, divorce, peer relationships, etc.
  • Consult with parents in the educational and vocational areas

Our professional background equips us to work with parents and children in a number of helpful ways.  Training includes a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education with courses in personality and learning theory, child development and counseling techniques.  We hold a counseling certificate from the State of Washington.  However, we are not licensed psychologist/psychiatrists and do not provide therapy during the school day.

The school counselors are here to help you with your concerns. Please check in with your teacher to get a pass to the counseling office to sign up for an appointment. The counselors will send a note to excuse you from class when they are available to see you.

Parents can call the Guidance Department to arrange for student conferences as well.
