As a school community, we want to be transparent about how school fees and fines work and why resolving them each year matters — for your family and for the programs we're able to offer all students.
Fees vs. fines — what's the difference?
Fees are costs tied to participation in optional activities, programs, or services. Fines are charges that result from lost, damaged, or unreturned property, or from unpaid fees.
Fees help fund the programs, materials, and activities that enrich your student's experience, so we ask that they be paid promptly. Students joining ASB-sponsored clubs or athletics need an ASB membership before they can compete or participate in events.
When fees go unpaid, they can convert into fines. Unresolved fines make it harder for us to provide opportunities for all students — think replacing unreturned sports uniforms, covering unpaid ASB costs, or restocking library books and school materials.
Common reasons you might see a fee or fine:
• Lost or damaged textbooks or library books
• Damaged or unreturned technology (student computers, chargers)
• Sports or extracurricular activity fees
• Field trips or special events
• Music instruments or specialized class materials
• Student activity (ASB) fees — for ASB clubs and all sports
• Vandalism (repair, replacement, or clean-up costs)
How to resolve your student's fees or fines:
• Return any outstanding items
• Pay online through PowerSchool
• Contact the school to set up a payment plan
• Reach out to school administration if you're facing financial hardship
Please note: unresolved fees or fines may mean a student sits out optional extracurricular events not tied to academic access — things like the yearbook signing party, field day, athletic participation, or similar school-sponsored activities, as determined by the school. No student will ever be denied access to required academic instruction because of unpaid fees or fines.
